Bio

Ien DeNio is a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College where they studied Technical Theater with an emphasis in Sound Design and has recently graduated from the Yale School of Drama, furthering their studies in Sound Design. Ien is based in New York City, where they are a freelance sound designer and theatrical foley artist.

Ien's work has been featured with Godlight Theatre Company.  With Godlight, they have designed The Pilo Family Circus (2013 Drama Desk Nomination and a 2013 NYIT Nomination), Deliverance (2015 Drama Desk Nomination and 2015 Henry Hewes Design Nomination) and Cool Hand Luke which transferred to 59e59 Theaters following success at Kingsborough Community College.

Ien grew up as a military child, spending more of their younger years abroad than stateside.  Their love of sound started early with a 13 year affair with the oboe which cooled in their second year of college when sound design for theater became their passion.  After training in all aspects of technical theater, Ien pursues a sound design career while periodically doing lighting, projections and puppet design.

Ien has been active in the New York City off-off and off-Broadway circuits since 2007 and is always excited to take on a new and interesting challenge.
